    I have a much simpler and easier method to dry my firewood. First: Take everything out of the room your wood stove is in. . Then: stack the room on both sides of your wood stove to the ceiling with firewood. (Make sure the top half of one side is dry enough to burn). Then start burning the top half of the side that is dry enough to burn. By the time you get to the rest of the wood on that side it will be dried out enough to burn. By the time you get to the 2nd half of the firewood on the other side of your wood stove it will be dry as a bone. In essence you are using your wood stove as a kiln to dry out your firewood. One advantage this has is that this method will humidify your house all winter from the moisture evaporating from your stacked firewood. The room my wood stove is in is large enough to contain a full year's supply of firewood. What is nice about my system is that I usually have leftover firewood which I can use to burn next year, and so go on repeating the cycle every year without having to dry the wood for a year before burning. Of course this all depends on the layout of your house and how it is designed... The room my wood stove is in used to be the living room and it is separate from the rest of the house, so filling it with firewood does not interfere in how i live. Another nice thing about my system us that all the loading and stacking of firewood is done only once; right next to your wood stove; so you don't need to spend any more time carrying or stacking or loading your firewood all winter.

    • @EverythingElliott
      @EverythingElliott 17 годин тому

      I would be divorced if I filled our living room with firewood. My wife would not allow that. And to be honest, not sure if I would want to fill my living room with firewood either.

    • @indrekkpringi
      @indrekkpringi 14 годин тому

      @@EverythingElliott It doesn't have to be the living room. It could be any room large enough to store firewood and give enough air flow to heat the house. You could even build an extension and add an extra room. One thing is for sure: My system works without having to measure the moisture content of every log I burn.

    • @indrekkpringi
      @indrekkpringi 12 годин тому

      @@EverythingElliott Another benefit of my system is the firewood acts as a heat sink that stores heat, so even after the wood in the stove is burned, the heat in the firewood keeps my 2-story house warm for hours regardless of how cold it is outside.

    Great video. The mingo marker is a nifty gimmick. The reason I call it a gimmick is because it is something extra to carry, cost money to operate and has parts to fail. This is especially true in freezing temperatures. Once the first can of paint is gone most of them end up on or underneath the workbench. But each to their own. It is still much better than a 4 inch difference in the length of the rounds. I am glad you were not injured any worse with that loaded tension on that limb. Have a great day.

    Hey Elliot, free wood is good wood. That’s one hell of a stash. Looks like the Mingo Marker makes marking the poles a lot quicker. I like the retro loggers helmet, definitely more affordable than what Jake was sporting. Cheers Woody from across the lake!!!

      Free wood is the best wood. Only way to make it better is if the wood is delivered without any sweat equity! Thanks for watching!

    My 3rd favorite source of wood. 1) outta the woods 2) tree service friend 3) damn I shoulda dropped that tree before the wind storm… I personally prefer to skid 8’ logs and stack in my wood yard. But in the scenario you had, gotta do it the hard way. I do kinda like the idea of the Mingo (?) marker. I could mark a whole bunch of logs on the stack pretty quick. Although you didn’t have chaps on, at least you recognized the omission. If you rewatch the video, you should watch the path the bar was on when the limb jumped. Stay safe!

      Oh I’m well aware how close of a call it was. I’m not a huge chap guy as I find them extremely cumbersome. I should really look into getting some chainsaw pants.

      I was not a chaps guy either until the guy selling me my 2nd chainsaw asked me if I had a pair. He said that they weren't cheap, but they are cheaper than a trip to the ER. I was out helping my neighbor cut up a tree in his yard, had put a new chain on the saw and the chain came off the bar and hit my thigh. I barely felt it, but it made a 3 inch gash through 3 layers of Kevlar. I don't know if that would have been an artery or not, but would certainly been many stiches. Needless to say I am onto my second pair of chaps. At The time of the incident, I'd been cutting firewood for 25yrs to heat the house as you do. No judgment from me, but just passing along my experience.
